DMACC Perry VanKirk Welding Academy students compete in state welding contest
DMACC at Perry VanKirk Career Academy Welding Academy students competed in the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 33 High School State Welding Contest on May 19 in Des Moines. The contest included 138 welders representing 40 schools across the state of Iowa. The competition was Shielded Metallic Arc Welding in all positions on plate.
The DMACC at Perry VanKirk Career Academy Welding Academy students and instructors who attended the contest included Kevin Juarez Perez of Perry, Kain Killmer of Perry, Martha Turrado of Perry, Maddie Morgan of Ogden, instructor Jim VonBehren and instructor Brent Rowe.
Killmer finished in first place in the torch cutting category. The top two place winners received a welder. Additional awards included welding hoods and gear.
